Welcome to Ginny and Greg's page!!!

We live in the capital city of Wales, Cardiff, although by one of those strange quirks of fate neither of us is originally from the Principality. Greg is originally from the Artic climes of Yorkshire whilst Ginny hails from the smoky exububerance of England's capital city, London. Quite a bit of our spare time is taken up with running the Bomber Command Historical Society, a society dedicated to perpetuating the memory of the men who flew the bombers in World War Two. Check out the photo below of the Yorkshire Air Museums Halifax rebuild "Friday the Thirteenth" creeping up on Ginny unawares!!

Behind you!!

Being taken by surprise by old bombers seems to be something of a habit in our household, as this picture of preserved Lancaster NX611 "Just Jane" creeping up on Greg bears testament to.....

Greg's interest in World War Two bombers comes from his Grandfather, who served on Lancasters with 100 Squadron as a Bomb Aimer. When Ginny arrived on the scene, she was appalled at Greg's lack of organisation and filing capabilities regarding his research, and decided that the only way forward was to completely reorganise his paperwork conglomerate into something more manageable and easy to find documents in. Working on the maxim "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em" she is developing quite an expertise in distinguishing her Lancasters from her Concordes.

Ginny is working on her own project based around Downham Market and the squadrons that were based there during the War. As well as collating records of the station during the war years, she is also in the process of cataloguing what is left of the old airfield today. To this end, you can see some of the photos that were taken on a recent visit to the airfield by clicking here.

We do have some interests away from the aviation scene, predominantly on the live music scene. Please click here if you would like to be taken to a page of links dealing with these "extra-curricular" activities!!

Spring 1999

Well, the Spring of 1999 has seen us maintaining our usual pace of activities (somewhere between dead slow and stop!!), and at the beginning of March we went to stay with Ginny's parents in Norfolk. Being in the middle of an area rich in aviation heritage, we couldn't just stay in and watch the telly, so off we went on the "Greg and Ginny Aviation Heritage Trail"!! We visited East Kirkby, Coningsby, the old airfields at Feltwell, Methwold, Witchford, and Duxford, which is of course now one of the premier aviation museums in the country. Below are some of the photos we took whilst we were away. The images are thumbnails - click on the image to receive a full size picture on your screen.

At Witchford, a sign that we were on the right road to finding the old airfield!!

We soon found the old airfield, and just off the end of what was once the main runway, is this splendid memorial to 115 Squadron.

By the time we got to Methwold, it was a typically dark and dismal Norfolk day, and the pictures didn't come out too well, and at Feltwell the American sentry with a sidearm suggested that pointing the camera in the direction of the WW2 hangars might result in summary arrest, but here are some photos of our trip to Duxford for you.

In the first Hangar at Duxford can be found two examples of Avro's contribution to aviation heritage. From the first generation of jet bombers, here is the mighty Vulcan, First Lady of the cold war "V-Force".

Continuing the theme of members of the BCHS team being sneaked up on by old bombers, here's Ginny and a "stealth" B-17.

A B-29, a colour scheme, and Greg's matching top!!

And just to prove we're not biased against fighters, here's two beautiful ladies posing for a shot.

Coming up later on this year will be a series of photos of some of our adventures this summer in Lincolnshire, as we set out to discover some of the old airfields that made up the former 1 and 5 Groups of Bomber Command. And of course, living in Lincoln, we will be able to regularly see the RAF's last flying Lancaster "City of Lincoln" gracing the skies - our camera will always be handy, so by the end of the year we hope to have a nice gallery of photos of the old girl out and about - check back soon for more details of what we have been up to!!

SPRING AND SUMMER 2000

Loads has been happening in the first half of this millennium year, and as soon as we have some spare time we'll be posting details on this page. Until then however, why don't you take a look at some of the interests we have away from the aviation scene by clicking here to be taken to a page full of some of our favourite links!!! Come back soon and see what's new!!
